Memgen Presents Clinical Results for ISF35 in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia at ASCO 2011

Data Presented at the 47th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)

Published: June 21, 2011

DALLAS, TX - Memgen, LLC announced the presentation of clinical results for its lead product, ISF35, during the 47th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago, Illinois June 3-7, 2011. The clinical results of ISF35 were featured in a poster discussion session for leukemia, myelodysplasia, and transplantation held on June 3, 2011.

A poster presentation (Abstract 6528), entitled A phase Ib clinical trial of Ad-ISF35-transduced autologous cells in combination with fludarabine, cyclophosphamide, rituximab (FCR) for patients with fludarabine-refractory and/or del(17p)/p53-defective chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), described results from a Phase Ib clinical trial co-sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The clinical study is evaluating the safety and efficacy of ISF35 in combination with chemotherapy in patients with fludarabine-refractory and/or 17p-deleted CLL.

Patients in this study received their own tumor cells modified to express ISF35. Following ISF35 cell therapy, subjects received monthly courses of FCR, a standard chemotherapy regimen. Key findings presented on the poster include:

  • All nine CLL subjects examined in this study have been del(17p). This is the first study of its kind to focus solely on this high risk CLL patient group.
  • Interim data shows a 56% complete response rate, unprecedented in this high-risk del(17p) CLL population.
  • Results suggest ISF35 can overcome resistance to the cytotoxic activity of p53-dependent drugs, such as fludarabine.
  • The data suggest ISF35+FCR may be used as a preparative regimen for salvage therapies, including allogeneic stem cell transplant.

About Memgen

Memgen is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing immunotherapies to improve survival and quality of life of patients with cancer, autoimmune conditions and infectious diseases. Memgen's patent-protected re-engineered molecules, which are based on the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily of molecules, target specific receptors expressed on disease cells such as tumors, eliminating the disease cells. Memgen's technology is designed to overcome resistance of disease cells to chemotherapy.

Memgen's lead product, ISF35, is an immunotherapy currently in phase I and II clinical trials for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and lymphomas. More information about Memgen, which has offices in San Diego, CA, and Dallas, TX, is available at www.memgenbio.com.
